Drawings

Thistles were a key element in my work, being a strong symbol of Scottishness. I loved drawing them, capturing the different textures and range of colours with pencil and colour pencil. Taking time to look at the form of the thistle helped when moving into fabric and 'drawing' with the Cornely machine. The nature of the Cornely (a flowing, linear, continuous chain stitch) really lent itself to thistles, creating movement and life within the tweed fabrics.
