My first post! Having put up my degree show last week, I thought it would be a good time to get my blog in shape by explaining a bit about my work and putting some images up.
So, my final year project:
Inspired by my heritage, I have developed a body of work that uses elements of Scottish culture, focusing on the juxtaposition of traditional Scottish fabrics with bright and opulent embellishments. Tweeds and plaids are combined with beads, sequins and threads, challenging the anticipated use of these fabrics and introducing a decorative aspect to them. A subtle visual quirkiness has developed from this unexpected relationship, softened by the sense of delicacy and detail that is reflected in both my fabric samples and drawings.
